The Birmingham City Business School Business and Management BA Hons Degree allows students to experience the key management concepts, models and theories, taken off the page and applied to management as you’ll find it. The course provides an incisive study of how organisations operate the contemporary challenges and opportunities ahead of them.

The study of business provides a detailed understanding of the way organisations work, how they operate within their specific environment and the impact on individuals working within them. In the economic climate, businesses in all sectors face many complex and diverse challenges and have to respond quickly to change. By encouraging students to adopt a critical questioning approach, the management pathway prepares students to meet the demands of these rapidly changing environments in a positive and proactive way.

Honours degree students will study a common first year before continuing onto subject-specific modules in the remaining years of the course. This exciting development is designed to offer students flexibility of subject choice and increase employability.

Entry Requirements for Business and Management (BA Hons)

Any applicant who wishes to undertake the Business and Management Degree Course must satisfy will need to satisfy the general admissions requirements of the programme, which are as follows:

English Requirements:

Where the applicant’s medium of instruction (at a tertiary level) was not in English, the applicant must have obtained a minimum of either:

  1. a score of 575 or better on the TOEFL;
  2. a score 6.0 or better on the IELTS, or
  3. furnish satisfactory evidence of a level of attainment in English Language commensurate with studying at Undergraduate level

Prior Qualifications:

For Entry in to the Business and Management programme, applicants must have one of the following:

  • Grade C2 at higher level in six subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination with a minimum of OC3 level English and Mathematics
  • Applications are welcomed from those with international qualifications (equivalent to those above) such as International Baccalaureate 32 points, including internationally accredited Foundation courses.
  • Satisfactory completion of a FETAC Level 5/6 full-time course of an appropriate type.
  • The programme welcomes applications from mature students.
Assessment:

Assessment is of a practical nature and is undertaken both individually (summative) and as a member of a team (formative). The programme uses a wide range of innovative assessment styles, which range from business reports, academic papers, case studies, individual and group presentations, portfolios and projects, as well as conventional examinations.

Award:

The Business and Management BA Honours Degree is awarded by Birmingham City University, which is recognized by the Qualifications Assurance Agency (QAA) in the United Kingdom.
